How To Make Copycat Beautycounter Cleansing Balm: Moisturized Skin Doesn't Need To Cost A Fortune

Today I have an extra special DIY for you, I would say my best one since my Tummy Tightening Oil (and that’s saying something)! One of my favorite Beauty Counter products of all time is the Cleansing Balm. As far as I’m concerned, there is no better way to remove makeup, cleanse your face, and make it perfectly soft and supple. Problem is... it’s pricey! I knew for sure that I would want to try and make a dupe of the cleansing balm at my first opportunity. And also, let me clarify… I love Beauty Counter and I still purchase certain products from them, but if there is anything I can make on my own for cheaper I am all for it! So with that said, let’s learn how to make Beautycounter cleansing balm!

What Exactly Is Cleansing Balm?

Is oil cleansing and cleansing balm new to you? Cleansing balm is basically a face wash and makeup remover in solid form. Cleansing balm use oils and high moisture ingredients to quite literally melt makeup, dirt, and grime from your skin WITHOUT stripping the skin of moisture or disrupting the pH balance.

As you massage the product onto your skin, the oils and butters will dislodge everything from the skins surface. If you have dry skin you then just simply need to wipe everything away with a soft cloth with warm water. If you have oily skin prone to breakouts you can use your preferred soap face wash as the final step in cleansing. Either way your skin will be clean and makeup free without feeling parched! Ready to give it a try? Check out the recipe below!

Ingredients And Supplies Needed

(This recipe makes just under 4 oz. of balm)

3 Tbsp Shea Butter

2 Tbsp Calendula Oil (Homemade or Store Bought)

1 Tbsp Cocoa Butter

1 Tbsp Beeswax Pellets

1/2 Tsp Grapefruit Seed Extract (A Preservative)

Lidded Container (I Used A 4 Oz Mason Jar)

Optional:

15 Drops Frankincense Essential Oil

10 Drops Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

5 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil

How To Make Copycat Beautycounter Cleansing Balm

You will want to begin by putting a few inches of water at the bottom of a deep skillet or pot. Next, get a smaller bowl/jar that will fit inside the center of the skillet or pot (or forgo these steps and just use a double boiler).

Place the shea butter, cocoa butter, and bees wax pellets into the bowl/smaller container (or double boiler) and melt slowly on low-medium heat.

Once the ingredients are fully melted you will want to turn off the heat and then add your calendula oil and grapefruit seed extract to the bowl and stir together.

Lastly, add your essential oils (if you want to use these, see below for the essential oil benefits). Stir all ingredients together well and then pour into your jar. Allow the balm to fully cool before placing the lid on.

Cost Comparison:

Beautycounter Cleansing Balm: $69 for 2.5 oz.

My Recipe: $10-$15 for 4 oz. (hard to tell exact as all ingredients are sold in varying sizes)

Cost Of ALL Ingredients Listed (Including Essential Oils): $95

Cost Of Just The Non-Optional Ingredients: $52

The above ingredients can then make you several (5-10) batches of the cleansing balm… making each 4 oz. jar anywhere from $10-$15 a piece (and much less if you already possess some of the ingredients!).

Skin Benefits Of Essential Oils

I regularly talk about the benefits of essential oils and I feel like they can do wonders for any type of skin. This recipe includes three of the best essential oils for skin as an optional add in and let me explain why you may want to be sure and go with this option!

Frankincense is a miracle oil for aging skin. It can help with skin cell regeneration and is also known to help tighten the skin and reduce signs of scarring. It is a key ingredient in many of my homemade beauty products!

Ylang Ylang not only has a feminine and calming scent but can also calm irritated skin so it is a great addition to the night time skin routine. Ylang Ylang can also balance out the oils in the skin for optimum moisture levels.

Tea Tree oil fights inflammation to calm the skin and is also loaded with antimicrobials. If you are prone to breakouts this is a great oil to add to your skincare products!

I like to combine all three of these oils in my cleansing balm for an ultra soothing mix that also helps protect and strengthen my skin! Try this recipe out for yourself and if you enjoy it, be sure to share it with others!
