Bright Woods: An Anthropologie Inspired DIY Perfume

I’m back at it with a new DIY for the new year!  I have been toying with the idea of this fragrance for a while now, if you all know and love Anthropologie like I do, then the scent of the store is both a comforting and uplifting one that just makes you feel good!  Well I have always thought, how awesome would it be to bottle up that scent??  After doing some research on the different scent notes that this would require, along with testing out different combinations, I came up with what I think is my new favorite fragrance.  The combination of woodsy spruce and uplifting citrus means this DIY fragrance is perfect for this season of life as we go through the winter and on into the refreshing spring season.  And as always, I have added a few ingredients to give this homemade perfume a longer lasting, staying power.  Be sure to read until the end to also check out the free PDF printable labels included at the bottom of the post!

Begin by adding all drops of your essential oils to the bottle using your mini funnel.  Place the lid on the bottle and gently roll the bottle in your palms to mix the oils together.  At this point if you wish you can cap your bottle and set it aside for a few days to let the fragrance strengthen and mix together and then revisit it to see if there are any scents you want to use more or less of (if you want to use “less of a scent” you would simply add more drops of the other preferred scents to balance it out or start over which I don’t recommend unless you really don’t like it!!).

Now measure out your glycerine and distilled water into a small bowl and mix this together well, and once mixed add this using your funnel into the perfume bottle.  Then simply fill up the rest of your bottle to the top with your alcohol.  Screw on the lid and place the cap on and allow the scents to meld for 24 hrs to intensify.  This recipe will give you about a 20% (eau de parfum level) strength (if you choose to add more or less drops this will change the percentage).

A few things to note - as you will see here in the photos and video, I tend to use multiple different brands of essential oils as I have no bias to any company. I do plan to one day publish a post explaining my feelings on not using one company over another, but just know that many companies are good out there. I try to use organic when at all possible and stay away from anything synthetic. My favorite brand for transparent quality and price is Plant Therapy but I also use Young Living (much pricier), Aura Cacia and NOW Foods. Always message me if you ever have any questions about purchasing your oils, I am happy to pass along my recommendations and opinions! Also, you will see many scents are required to make a full bodied, complex fragrance so if you do not already own many of these oils there will be an upfront expense. You can always try out cutting down on one or two of the citrus scents and I am certain you will still end up with an amazing result, but do know that most bottles will last several rounds of perfume making and can also be used for diffusing and other DIY projects!

I hope you all enjoy this scent, let me know if there are any other fragrances that you all love that you want me to try to recreate for a DIY in the comments below!  And be sure to print out my free PDF printable labels here (they match these labels by Avery)!
